How to Remove the Smoke Smell From Car Interiors

Smoke smells in cars are hard to get rid of using typical car air freshners. Nicotine sticks to everything inside a car interior, including the headliner. To get rid of the scent, you've got to use a few unconventional methods.

First of all, I'll give you my favorite method that is used by car dealers...

Place a dryer sheet under the each front seat of the vehicle and with the windows rolled up, turn the heat on to full blast, on recirculate. Let the vehicle run, heating up the interior for about 20 minutes. Don't be in there, of course. Turn the vehicle off, once the interior has been really hot for about 10 minutes and let the vehicle sit overnight. The dryer sheets will freshen the entire interior, including the headliner.

An alternative method is to place dryer sheets under the seats when the vehicle will be sitting in the hot summer heat for a few hours, with the windows rolled up.

Another method is to use dry upholstery cleaner, spraying the headliner, back dash board and all interior surfaces completely. Allow to completely dry and then use a heavy duty shop vacuum cleaner to vacuum all of the interior surfaces of the vehicle. Clean the dashboard and other rubber/vinyl and leather parts with a mild detergent before applying armor all.

Your vehicles "cabin filter" needs to be changed, regardless of the method that you use to clean the interior surfaces, carpet and seating.

Aeresol air fresheners only mask the smell.
